Mike Sommerfeld has spent more than three decades serving the people of Pierce County through a career rooted in public service, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law. Since joining the Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in 1995, he has earned a reputation as a thoughtful attorney, trusted legal advisor, and experienced courtroom advocate.
For the past 28 years, Mike and his wife Christa have called Pierce County home—where they raised their children and built deep ties to the community. Mike comes from a family that values hard work and service to others. That commitment to community is something he shares with his wife Christa, a licensed clinical social worker who has supported families throughout Pierce County as a victim advocate and family therapist.
Today, he serves as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and legal advisor to Pierce County District Court and Juvenile Court.
WA Traffic Safety Judicial Excellence Award
Mike received the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission Award for Judicial Excellence for securing a victory in the Washington State Supreme Court that holds drug impaired drivers accountable.

Veterans’ Legal Clinic — Volunteered to provide pro bono legal services to veterans in the Pierce County community.
Family Roots — Lived in Pierce County for 28 years alongside his wife Christa where they raised their two sons Mathew and Jackson. Christa is a licensed clinical social worker and victim advocate who has dedicated her career to Pierce County families.
Mike has earned the endorsement of the Pierce County legal community, Pierce County elected officials, and civic organizations who trust him to bring experience and integrity to the bench.
